Immigration Panel: The Myth of the American Dream-

Join… Alianza, The Anderson Freeman Center, and The Spanish & Portuguese Department as we discuss one of the most highly debated issues in the upcoming 2016 election— Immigration Reform. Debunking the myths and making sense of the facts, we hope to arrive at a deeper understanding of what “comprehensive” Immigration Reform actually looks like. We are honored to welcome our guest speakers Mary Mendoza, Roberto Lint-Sagarena, Leticia Arroyo-Abad, and Maria Socorro Pesqueira.

Guten Tag, Ramon

Buen día, Ramón tells the story of Ramón, a young man from Durango, Mexico, who has tried, unsuccessfully, to cross the US border. After several failed attempts, he decides instead to travel to Germany and contact a friend’s aunt, but his plans go awry when he can’t find her. He struggles to survive on the streets, not properly prepared for the harsh weather, and carrying practically no money, until he meets Ruth, a retired and lonely nurse.

Border Of Lights

The 1937 Haitian Massacre was a policy of mass murder that occurred in the Caribbean nation of the Dominican Republic that shares an island with Haiti. From late September to late October in 1937 approximately 9,000 to 18,000 ethnic Haitians (we will never truly know the exact number) were systematically rounded-up and killed in Dominican territory. The orders were given by the Dominican dictator Rafael Leonidas Trujillo Molina, seven years into his 30 year rule. Come join Alianza in front of Carr Hall to commemorate all those who passed during this massacre.
