Creating Art Together

Join MiddCAT from 5-7 on October 8th in Johnson for a workshop in conjunction with the opening for “The Roots of Change: Rethinking Indigeneity at Middlebury College,” a solo art exhibition by Margaret Jacobs. Inspired by the transformative themes in Jacobs’ work, we will be creating paper and pipe cleaner flowers out of repurposed materials. This event is part of a larger effort to gather community to recognize and celebrate Indigeneity at Middlebury, and will feature several clubs coming together to host their own workshops during the opening.

Learn how to make linocut stamps with MiddCAT! In this workshop, you will learn how to create linoleum stamps using carving tools. We will go over designing a stamp, planning, and different carving techniques. All materials will be provided, and all levels of experience are welcome!

Dorm Decorating with MiddCAT

Join Middcat to create your own cyanotype print at the Knoll! Pick your favorite plants/other materials and arrange them on the paper. Watch as your designs change color in the sun! Sign up at go/cyanotypeprint/. 

Join Middcat and the Atelier for a sustainable day of sewing and handmending! If you have clothing that needs mending, feel free to bring it with you. We will provide all materials, including fabric scraps, and we will teach some simple stitches. Signups are required (visit our Instagram or Presence to see the go link)

Write letters to friends and family with stamps!

A small, guided workshop where we will create pocket-sized leather journals! Join us to personalize and learn to put together your own notebook.

Guided embroidery workshop for all skill levels. We will embroider tote bags and hats - come be creative with us!

A laid back workshop where students can collage their own art piece and put together cut-out words from newspapers and magazines to make their own decorative poems! Paper, collage materials, and mod podge will be provided.

This practice-based activity is open to anyone on campus, but especially those interested in thinking about ecology beyond traditional Western disciplinary lenses. We will use drawings and sound to consider the boundaries between more-than-human nature and embodied experience that Gloria Anzaldúa set out in her mediations, which proposed a feminist approach to the spaces and places at the U.S-Mexico border.
