Sarah Stanley, an alumnus of the Northeastern University Women Writers Project, will lead a session on how to conduct research using scholarly markup. If you are curious about scholarly markup or are looking to start a markup project (e.g. a digital scholarly edition), but don’t know where to begin, this session will provide you with a starting-point. This workshop, led by DLA Postdoc Alicia Peaker, will introduce the varied ways scholars have used text mining tools and concepts (e.g. “distant reading”) to analyze texts. Participants will then be invited to explore a shared set of texts with the user-friendly text mining and visualization tool Voyant. Bodies In the Classroom: A Workshop in Inclusive Pedagogies This workshop will provide an overview of “Inclusive Pedagogy”: what it means, why it’s important and what students at Middlebury have to say about it. We will outline concrete strategies to make your classroom more inclusive and invite you to discuss in small groups a few steps you might take within an existing class. The workshop will conclude by examining curricular stages of inclusivity and point to additional resources.
