How Digital Methods Transformed Our Work

Join Ellen Prokop (The Frick Collection) and Carrie Anderson (HARC) in a discussion about how digital methods, including digital mapping and GIS, changed the ways they approached scholarship and teaching. They will share lessons learned from adapting multidisciplinary approaches (like GIS) to their work, collaborating with other scholars and students on digital projects, and what they wished they’d known before venturing into new digital territories. Lunch will be served, so please RSVP at http://sites.middlebury.edu/dla/event/digmethods/.

Getting Started with Canvas

CTLR Pedagogy Series—Tech for the Teaching Toolkit
Presenter: Heather Stafford, Academic Technology Group

These interactive sessions will introduce faculty to the Canvas interface, navigation selections, and new features (like an aggregated calendar) to help them decide how to configure their Canvas sites to meet their needs. In addition, faculty already working on designing their sites can utilize the block as a work session where they can follow along, or work at their own pace with academic technology staff to help answer questions and explore new options.

Fifty Years of Green: A Digital Exhibition

Professor Kathy Morse (History) and Postdoc Alicia Peaker (DLA) will discuss the goals, process, successes and stumbles in having students build a series of collaborative, digital exhibits to mark 50 years of environmental studies at Middlebury. Fifty Years of Green, built using Omeka & Neatline, showcases the work of students in a Spring 2015 Environmental History course (HIST 222). During their talk, Kathy and Alicia will reflect on collaborative digital work; modifying an existing course with an experimental project; and student reactions to learning new software and skills.
