Join the Society of Wetland Scientists Student Association at MIIS for a panel discussion on engaging diverse audiences in private sector environmental projects. Ben LePage, PG&E Remediation Program Manager, is joined by colleagues to discuss how practitioners engage with the public and the government from project design to implementation to ensure equity, environmental justice, and representation.

While there, the education staff has generously agreed to give us a full “scientist for the day” experience, complete with a guided naturalist hike, water sampling, and more! This will be a great way to get a sense for where the data policy developers use comes from and how it’s gathered - and try your own hand at collecting it. Have you ever explored a salt marsh? Join us to discover what makes Elkhorn Slough such an important and unique ecosystem, while enjoying a nice day out kayaking. You will also become a citizen scientist by helping us assess how sea level rise could affect this area.

We are a group of MIIS students passionate about design thinking. We find this methodology very effective and efficient in solving problems creatively. We want to help others learn and facilitate design thinking sessions and solve problems in the community (both MIIS and Monterey). Our approach is to transfer the skills and knowledge to other students and expose the value of design thinking by solving real issues.
