This upcoming Wednesday, MIRA will be holding our first meeting to welcome new and returning students and to provide some details about our mission, upcoming events, members, and how to get involved with the MIIS Immigrant Rights Alliance.

Join the MIIS Immigrant Rights Alliance (MIRA) for a screening of the film “Gambatte Kimashita: Japanese Flower Growers of the Salinas Valley.” This short oral history documentary captures the stories of the Japanese immigrants who arrived in California after World War II and built a successful flower growing industry in the Salinas Valley. The film is about 20 minutes long and will be introduced by filmmaker Eric Palmer. The screening will be followed by a Q&A session.

Join MIRA for an evening of music, art, and solidarity! This fundraising event will feature music and art by community members who share a passion for immigrant rights—especially creatives who are immigrants themselves. Proceeds from the night will go to local organizations directly helping immigrant communities in California.

At this meeting, MIRA leaders and members will debrief about this semester’s events, discuss event planning and activities during J-term, and determine roles and responsibilities for spring semester. We will also listen to club leader Binh Ngo talk about her experience at the California Immigrant Policy Center conference. MIRA will provide and assortment of cookies during this meeting, but attendees are also welcome to bring snacks to share.

Join MIRA for our first open club meeting of the semester! We’ll be discussing upcoming events and activities. All are welcome.

ATTENTION TEACHERS AND STUDENTS! All season long, the MIISFits have been pouring their blood, sweat, and tears into exciting and emotional games of slow pitch softball. We’ve left our souls on the field; we’ve made barehanded double plays; we’ve tripped over first base and we have missed grounders a toddler could catch. Our final game of the regular season is next Tuesday night at 9 pm. HELP US MAKE IT TO POST SEASON FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER!! We can do it. We CAN DO IT. But we need your help.

What’s the best way to TGIF? Come find out with MIIS Ultimate, Climbing Club, ODRC, Ocean Club and MIIS Globadores at our Fall Recreational BBQ for an afternoon full of sun, sand, snacks and sports! We’ll have a range of activities and games for everyone to participate in and delicious BBQ to keep that energy going. Get pumped to finish out the week with fun, food and friends!

MIIS Toastmasters invites you to join us for our weekly meeting every Thursday during classes. We provide a supportive and positive learning experience in which members are empowered to develop communication and leadership skills, resulting in greater self-confidence and personal growth. Come try out a meeting!
