The end of semester concert of Ensemble 246 (A Cappella Ensemble Performance MUSC 0246) includes music from global traditions and North American musical styles. Port-a-beul (“mouth music”), Spiritual, Estonian art music, Georgian folk, Nigerian traditional, Medieval and Renaissance polyphony, and Barbershop are among the musical styles in the repertoire.

Composers and improvisers Elliott Sharp and Matthew Evan Taylor, Assistant Professor of Music, present an evening of improvised music that promises to stretch the audience’s ears! Free

What Is This Thing Called Jazz? The DFJG offers an evening of sparkling, sophisticated mainstream jazz enhanced by another chance to look behind the curtain and see how jazz is created. Long a favorite of Vermont audiences, the group features Director of Jazz Activities Dick Forman on piano, along with some of New England’s finest musicians. Free

Students of affiliate artists Carol Christensen and Susanne Peck cap off a semester of vocal study with an evening of songs and arias. Accompanied by affiliate artist Cynthia Huard and Annemieke McLane, piano. Free

Affiliate artist Dayve Huckett plays solo guitar and also performs with professor Peter Hamlin ’73 on accordion and Ron White on bass, as well as in collaboration with student musicians. Free

 

Free Improvisation and the Liberal Arts Series Artist in Residence Elliott Sharp and Assistant Professor of Music Matthew Evan Taylor present the music of the students of MUSC 1026.  This concert is the culmination of intensive work and study of improvisational practices and how these elements inform composition. Sharp is an American contemporary classical composer, multi-instrumentalist, and performer, and a central figure in New York City’s avant-garde and experimental music scene since the late 1970s. Free
