The Vermont Supreme Court is scheduled to hear oral arguments in four cases in McCullough Student Center — Wilson Hall. There will also be a Q&A with the justices from 11:30 a.m. until noon. The justices normally hear appellate cases in the Supreme Court building in Montpelier, VT but for the past several years they have held a term “On the Road” at a local high school and at Vermont Law School. Wilson Hall will be turned into a courtroom for the day so that students and community members can experience the appellate process.

Join Black Lives Matter advocate DeRay McKesson for an interactive program about political activism, as McKesson shares how his liberal arts education gives perspective and informs his approach to advocacy.

Copies of DeRay McKesson’s book, “On the Other Side of Freedom: The Case for Hope” will be on sale at the venue, and Mr. McKesson will be available to sign copies after the event.

Nikole Hannah-Jones was named a MacArthur Genius for “reshaping national conversations around education reform”. This is but one honor in a growing list: she’s won a Peabody, a Polk, and a National Magazine Award for her story on choosing a school for her daughter in a segregated city. Most recently, her New York Times Magazine’s The 1619 Project, on the history and legacy of American slavery, went viral and garnered her even more honors for her groundbreaking journalism.

The human microbiome is now recognized as a dynamic part of the human ecosystem, and research demonstrates that using ecology to understand this ecosystem has profound benefits for patient wellness. Changes in the human microbiome have substantial influence on atopy, neurological disorders, metabolic disorders, and a range of complex conditions and disease states. Professor Gilbert will discuss evidence of these conditions and how we have started to disturb the delicate balance of the immune-microbe equilibrium, impacting the development and function of our immune systems.
