“Lupe Under the Sun” is a neorealist film following an aging migrant worker living in California, who longs to return to Mexico before it is too late. Featuring a cast of nonprofessional actors, real farmworkers and authentic locations, Lupe Under the Sun tackles issues of depression, homesickness and the immigrant myth of the American Dream.

Join students of SPAN 324, Images of America, for a public talk by Don Stevens, Chief of the Nulhegan Abenaki Tribe. Chief Stevens’ talk will focus on contemporary life in Vermont as a person of indigenous heritage. It will be followed by a discussion and refreshments.

In 2016, President Obama signed the law P.R.O.M.E.S.A., aggravating the socioeconomic and political situation of Puerto Rico. The University of Puerto Rico has always been a target of the neoliberal austerity policies of the US and Puerto Rico government. Activist Student, Ruth N. Figueroa-Couvertier, and Sociologist, César Pérez-Lizasuain, will reflect on those austerity measures and the impacts they have on the only public institution of higher education on the island.
