Lecturing is being phased out at The Robert Larner, M.D. College of Medicine at The University of Vermont. The current plan calls for all lecturing to cease by 2022 and the time spent in lecture halls will be replaced by time in active learning environments.
In this session, Dr. Jeffries will discuss the increased importance of active learning, how UVM is going about redesigning its curriculum based on growing evidence about superior strategies to lecturing. He will speak to the need for faculty development and how UVM has created a ‘Teaching Academy’ to encourage, train and support teaching faculty as they develop new ways of instruction.
