Peacebuilding and Conflict in the Balkans: Expert panel and student project fair

This event introduces attendees to the many facets of peacebuilding and conflict transformation in the Western Balkans, with a special emphasis on examinations of nationalism, women and LGBT advocacy, and language policy. From 11:00-11:50, a panel of experts from Serbia and Bosnia will introduce the MIIS community to a wide range of conflict transformation challenges and lessons learned.

Storytelling, Environment, and Intercultural Action: A Graphic Novel about Maritime Strategy in Ghana

Join MIIS graduate Nick Tomb (MAIPS, 2002) as he talks about the creation and publication of his recently published graphic novel, The Adventures of Maritime Domain Awareness Man, an inspiring new story that ignites passion for environmental protection and advocacy featuring African heroes and folklore that will “edutain” younger generations to think about what is happening in our global waters and what they can do to save our seas.

Exploring Sustainable Agriculture in Rural Colombia

Students will present their reflections on an extraordinary EL course over Spring Break which took them to the town of Libano in the Colombian Andes to explore the culture, promise and challenge of growing—and marketing—sustainably grown coffee. Empanadas and (sustainable) coffee will be served. Happy Earth Week!
