Students will come look at case studies of people from all over the world whose human rights have been infringed upon and write letters/sign letters that we will send out to legislation of the countries from which the people belong to advocate for their rights.

Documentary Viewing: Writing With Fire

Amnesty International will be screening the documentary titled, “Writing With Fire,”  The documentary description captures the ideas of censorship and freedom of speech: in a cluttered news landscape dominated by men, emerges India’s only newspaper run by Dalit women. Chief Reporter Meera and her journalists break traditions, redefining what it means to be powerful.

This week Amnesty International will host a a Write for Rights event for local activists to call on governments worldwide to protect and release victims of human rights abuses. This event is just one of thousands that will be carried out throughout the USA and more than 50 countries worldwide. Our group has chosen 6 of the 12 cases to support and will be hosting a letter writing campaign Thursday and Friday in the dining halls during lunch and dinner. We will also be tabling outside of the RIDDIM dance performance and the Film Society Friday film event.
