Medical March Madness: UVM College of Medicine: Medical School Admissions

Representatives from the UVM College of Medicine Admission’s office will explore the medical school admissions process. Come learn what medical schools look for in an applicant and how they build a medical school class. You’ll have the opportunity to ask the UVM Team about their holistic review process and their MMI style of interviewing.

Medical March Madness: Secondaries Workshop with Denise Shekerjian

Join Denise Shekerjian ‘75, lawyer, writer and author of books and essays. Denise specializes in assisting students who need assistance with college admission essays, medical school applications, and other graduate and fellowship applications. Learn how to avoid common pitfalls in your AMCAS secondaries that result in dull and predictable essays. Understand the well-worn clichés and how to steer clear of the “I love people and I love science!!!” theme in your essay. You’ll come away with a good appreciation for how to reflect on and synthesize an experience.

Come to an information packed session where we answer the 20 most commonly asked questions by students going through the application process. Hear how to build a school list, approach secondary prompts, know when it’s appropriate to send a school an update, learn all you need to know about the queue, letters of intent and everything in between. Mary Lothrop, Hannah Benz and Nicole Veilleux will walk you through the next steps in your journey to professional school.

Meet Patrick Monette ‘17 who is recruiting for The Geriatric Psychiatry Research Program, directed by Dr. James Ellison. The Research Program addresses cutting edge research questions in the areas of dementia and mood disorders using new neuroimaging techniques, clinicopathological correlations, and other study methods. Current studies include a number of Sponsor-led Alzeimer’s Disease clinical drug trials, longitudinal analyses of older adults with depression and bipolar disorder, and neuroimaging studies focused on oxidative stress in geriatric depression.

Alumni Career Talk with Mark Stuver '97.5

Stuver has worked with BANDALOOP—a pioneer in vertical dance—for nearly two decades, touring worldwide. As a dancer, he has also performed his own work and with other companies in Dublin, Berlin, New York, and San Francisco. He currently works as a writer and puppeteer in LA. Stuver’s talk will focus on his professional journey, and how being open to other, possibly unexpected, disciplines, forms, and experiences has shaped his career path.
