Finding a Career in the $40 Billion Language and Technology Industry

75% of internet users, and 86% of Facebook postings, use a language other than English. Public and private sector organizations who wish to reach the non-English populations have to grapple with “localization”: the process of adapting a product or content to a specific locale or market. The language services industry recently surpassed the $40 billion mark and is projected to continue its rapid growth. There is a great need in this industry for localization professionals who are proficient in translation, technology, and business skills.

FFW 2017: STEM Innovation Program at Middlebury

The Stem Innovation Program is a creative interdisciplinary program designed to challenge students to formulate and implement a solution to a scientific or technological problem. Each year, a team of students from a variety of STEM departments and disciplines implement a technological solution to a real-world problem. Their goal is to develop a deliverable product in 10 weeks through technological innovation, collaboration, and iteration. We’ll learn about the 2017 project and have an opportunity to engage in a conversation about the role of STEM in the liberal arts.
