Global Health Minor Program

How do physicians and patients share the work of health promotion? Learn what drove one physician to write a book focusing on the empowerment of patients and the communities they live in. Dr. Catherine Pipas will describe the experiences that inspired her book, _A Doctor’s Dozen; 12 Strategies for Personal Health and A Culture of Wellness_. Dr. Pipas is a primary care physician and Professor of Community & Family Medicine at the Dartmouth School of Medicine. This talk is for students interested in wellness, medicine, and community health.

Interested in getting a master of public health (MPH) degree? Representatives from the University of Vermont (UVM) will give an overview of UVM’s Accelerated MPH program and answer your questions. Jump start your public health career! The MPH is a universally recognized, terminal degree in public health.

Students in Global Health (INTD 0257) will display posters at 11 AM to 12:15 PM and at 5 to 6:30 PM representing their research into the social determinants of health in Addison County, as well as potential innovations to address community needs through infrastructure, programming, training, and education.

In Winter Term 2020, a group of Middlebury students will have the opportunity to travel to Ghana for a learning experience with Refugee Outreach Club (ROC) and Summerwood Dental Brigades. This will be the second iteration of this trip (the last one was WT 2018). The experience will be structured as internships for academic credit. ROC has several years’ worth of history with this community in Ghana and works in partnership with local health leaders. Summerwood Dental Brigades will be providing dental services.

INFO SESSION: During J-Term of 2020, Refugee Outreach Club (ROC) and Summerwood Dental Brigades (SDB) will be hosting the second internship to Ghana in partnership with the Global Health Department at Middlebury College. This trip will be an internship for academic credit with one week on campus and three weeks on the ground in Ghana. The purpose of this trip is to focus on developing student leaders in the field of global health working specifically on hygiene and sanitation projects and working directly with Dr. Julie Spaniel running dental clinics.
