Join the ODRC for our second bike ride of the semester! This ride is an approx. 25-mile ride along the scenic 17-Mile Drive in Pebble Beach. We will meet on campus and ride out together from there. We’ll be riding on paved road and will most likely encounter car traffic throughout the route.

Riders need to bring their own bikes or arrange to rent bikes independently through one of the local bikes shops. In addition, riders need to be self-supporting and prepared to fix their own flat tires/other mechanical issues.

Title: Blockchain Protocols and Security Engineering Abstract: The development of blockchain and decentralized ledger technology has been driven by cryptocurrency applications and financial speculation, but there are a number of interesting cryptographic topics and blockchain-based projects that are applicable to information sharing, consensus, and confidential transaction use cases outside of cryptocurrency. This talk will review the fundamentals of blockchains, and explore their utility in a research context.

What’s New About Cyber Risk? Securing Cities the Smart Way. Cybersecurity concerns about the extensive use of ICTs and the increased adoption of the Internet-of-Things in cities have caused warning bells to go off. Stretching across all domains, from transportation to public safety, manufacturing and many others, smart technologies enable new models to conduct business, deliver services and support decision making. Yet, increased connectivity and vulnerabilities in smart technologies account for new types of emerging risk that cities must learn to manage.

The Cyber 9/12 Strategy Challenge is an annual cyber policy and strategy competition where students from across the globe compete in developing policy recommendations tackling a fictional cyber catastrophe.

MIIS’s team took second place out of 47 teams, and we’d like you to be a part of this year’s! Come on by to learn about the competition and enjoy some lunch!

Join the Cult of Bale as we visit the Jonestown Memorial in Oakland, CA on the anniversary of the suicide of Jonestown citizens. We will pay respects and learn a bit about Jonestown and then visit other locations of interest to those who choose to come.

Join us as we gather together to celebrate each other, socialize and discuss Cults and related topics. We’ll be at Cibo’s Restaurant on Thursday, November 15th and 29th in addition to our regular gatherings!!
