Put a Price On It: a Panel Discussion on Carbon Pricing at Middlebury & Beyond

Join us for pizza and a screening of the carbon pricing documentary, Priceless, from the series Years of Living Dangerously. Following the screening there will be a panel discussion of carbon pricing at the national, state, and campus College. The discussion is a part of Carbon Pricing Initiative to encourage Middlebury to endorse federal and Vermont carbon pricing efforts and implement an internal carbon surcharge at Middlebury. The screening will begin at 6pm and the panel discussion at 7pm. Pizza (not Green Peppers) will be served at 5:45pm.

Lake Baikal: Environmental Issues and NGOs' Efforts to Solve Them

Anna Ogorodnikova will talk about Lake Baikal (the deepest and the oldest lake in the world), protected areas around the lake, its current environmental problems (logging, overfishing, eutrophication, etc.) and the work of local non-profits to solve or mitigate some of these problems. Anna is the director of the Baikal Interactive Eco-Center, an NGO based in Irkutsk, Russia. She teaches a course on Lake Baikal ecology to students studying at the Middlebury C.V. Starr School Abroad in Irkutsk. She also builds hiking trails in the Baikal region.

Film Screening - Flow: For the Love of Water

Join us for the last screening in the movie series “Water, Power, and Justice”!
This 2008 documentary focuses on the global water crisis, water privatization, and pollution. Through interviews with activists, experts, and communities worldwide, Flow highlights the issues of agricultural pollutants and massive corporations controlling local water resources. Although this is a relatively old film, it introduces topics that are still relevant and pervasive today.
The first 10 registrants will be able to pick up free snack bags before this virtual screening!

Water, Power, and Justice Film Series - "Flint: The Poisoning of an American City"

Join us for the first of three film screenings in the Water, Power, and Justice Film Series where we will watch and discuss documentaries focused on water contamination in marginalized communities across North America and the world. This first screening, which focuses on the Flint water crisis, runs for 1.5 hours, and a short discussion will follow.

Yard Sale: Spring Cleaning Event

This Yard Sale event is a space for students to bring clothes, furniture, trinkets, and any other items they want to part with to sell or donate! We will have tables set up where students can sell or donate their items to their peers. Make sure to come by to check out clothes by Share to Wear, SheFly, and Overeasy, come with your own stuff or just stop by to find some hidden treasures!
