Simon Prahm is the co-founder and current managing director for GAME. Founded in 2003, GAME is a Danish-based Top 500 NGO headquartered in Copenhagen with 12 dedicated full time employees, 70 coaches and more than 100 volunteers. Using the ’sport-for-all’ approach its objective is to reach out to underprivileged youth, who have limited or no access to sport in order to strengthen the participants self-esteem, create social empowerment, and counteract marginalization. In 2014 he retired from the U.S. Foreign Service after serving as U.S. Ambassador to Syria (2011-2014). For his leadership of the American Embassy in Damascus he received a Presidential Honor award in 2012, and for his work on Syria he received in 2014 the Secretary of State’s Distinguished Service Award, the State Department’s highest award. Previously, he served as Deputy U.S. Ambassador to Iraq (2008-2010), U.S. Ambassador to Algeria (2006-2008), Political Counselor to the U.S.

Dr. Philbrick-Yadav (Associate Professor of Political Science at Hobart and William Smith Colleges) has been writing about Yemen’s opposition politics for more than a decade. Dr. Philbrick-Yadav’s book, “Islamists and the State: Legitimacy and Institutions in Yemen and Lebanon” (2013), explores the dynamics of Islamist activism and alliance building. Dr. Philbrick-Yadav’s lecture will address the ongoing conflicts in Yemen and critique the international response to them.

“Advocating for Animal Rights in China,” by Zhang Dan. Ms. Zhang has served as China’s Ambassador for World Animal Day and is the vice chairman of the China Small Animal Protection Association and co-founder of the China Animal Protection Media Salon. She was awarded the first Andrew Award for Outstanding Media Contribution at the 7th Asia for Animals Conference in 2011. She is the editor of the 2012 “Dongwuji” (Animal Essays), which collects Chinese writing on non-human animals and has a preface by Hsing Yun, the founder of the Fo Guang Shan International Buddhist Order. Ms.
