Karen Stolley

Karen A. Stolley ’77 is a professor of Spanish at Emory University, where she has been on the faculty since 1992 and teaches undergraduate and graduate courses on Latin American literature and culture with a focus on colonial and 18th-century Spanish-American and transatlantic literary and cultural studies. After graduating from Middlebury College, she earned a PhD in Spanish from Yale University and was the recipient of a Fulbright fellowship. Prior to Emory, she taught at Vassar College, the Middlebury School of Spanish, the Universidad de los Andes in Bogotá, Colombia, and as a visiting faculty member at the University of Pennsylvania. Her most recent book is Domesticating Empire: Enlightenment in Spanish America (Vanderbilt University Press, 2013). Stolley makes her home in Atlanta, Georgia.
