Hi everyone! My name is Sarah, I use she/her pronouns, and identify as a white woman. After going to college I spent 15 years in Montana, and moved back to Vermont in 2015 to be closer to family. I currently live in Middlebury with my partner, daughter, dog Stella, and growing flock of chickens.

After completing my bachelor’s degree in 2002 and experimenting with a variety of jobs, I began working as a field staff at a therapeutic wilderness program, and quickly realized that I wanted to pursue a career in mental health. I received my Master’s in Mental Health Counseling from Montana State University in 2008, and have been working as a counselor in varied settings since. I have spent time in community mental health, private practice, wilderness therapy, and more recently, focusing on college mental health. Prior to coming to Middlebury I worked at two different universities, and was very excited to join the staff at the counseling center in August 2022. My practice with students is guided through a relational and psychodynamic lens, with an emphasis on co-building trust and honesty within the therapeutic relationship, and see this relationship as a way to build awareness of outside patterns as well. I strongly believe that everyone with whom I interact has infinite worth, along with the innate capacity for healing and wholeness.

Spending time in the outdoors in any capacity brings me great joy, especially when with friends and family. I love to run and hike on trails, and head into the mountains whenever I get the chance, often accompanied by my sidekick Stella. During quieter moments, I enjoy spending time at home with my family and animals, baking, and reading
