The Undergraduate Research Office (URO) serves as a resource for faculty interested in incorporating research into their courses (Course-based Undergraduate Research Experiences or CUREs) and in working with students in mentored research experiences. Undergraduate research is a big tent and includes all disciplines and creative fields as well as lab and field-based research. Middlebury is also a member of the Council of Undergraduate Research (CUR), so faculty have access to all the resources within CUR (https://www.cur.org/), and welcome to attend CUR conferences and submit articles to their peer-reviewed journal, the Scholarship and Practice of Undergraduate Research (for which Lisa Gates, Associate Dean for Fellowships and Research, is an issue editor.) URO also supports student research endeavors through funding for senior work, academic conference participation, and summer research with Middlebury faculty. We manage the annual Spring Student Symposium, where students share their academic and creative endeavors with the broader Middlebury community. We also provide support for students applying to summer REU and SURF programs and maintain a listing of research-based opportunities for students across disciplines. Staff in URO include Lisa Gates, Colleen Norden and Debbie Cousino. Email URO at uro@middlebury.edu
