Motor Vehicle Theft

On October 1, 2024, at approximately 1:30 p.m., the Department of Public Safety received a report of a possible motor vehicle theft that had taken place on campus at E-Lot between 11 p.m. Monday, September 30, and 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 1. At 5:00 p.m. on October 9, 2024 the Department received a report of a motor vehicle theft that took place on campus at E-Lot between 2:40 p.m. Monday, October 7, and 4:15 p.m. Wednesday, October 9, 2024. The individuals who reported these crimes indicated that their keys were inside the vehicles at the time of the theft. The Middlebury Police Department is actively investigating these reports.

Safety measures to keep in mind: 

 - Be alert to your surroundings. 

 - People who commit crimes are often on the lookout for opportunities such as unlocked windows or doors. Lock     your vehicle and take your keys with you.

 - Do not leave valuables and packages in your car, especially if they can be seen from the outside of the vehicle.

 - Report crime and suspicious persons and/or activity on campus as soon as possible to Public Safety at 802-443-5911 or to Middlebury Police by calling 911. 

 - If you believe that you or someone else is in an unsafe situation, call 911. 

 - If you experience, witness, or suspect harm from another person, first call 911. If you are able, take note of any aspects of the person’s identity that stand out - such as clothing items, tattoos, mannerisms, or speech patterns.

WHAT IS THIS NOTICE?

In compliance with the Clery Act, the Middlebury College Department of Public Safety issues Timely Warnings when certain (Clery Act) crimes have occurred or are occurring on campus property, properties controlled by campus-affiliated organizations, or public property immediately adjacent to campus when it is determined that there is a serious or continuing threat to the campus community. Timely Warnings are intended to prevent similar crimes and to provide information that will assist community members in protecting themselves.
