Arrival & Departure
Bread Loaf Faculty should plan to arrive on Saturday, June 14, by 5 p.m. There will be a Barn Social at 5:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 6:30 p.m. At 8 p.m., there will be an important orientation meeting in the Barn. The last day of the conference, Saturday, June 21, is a travel day. Breakfast is served that morning, and all must leave campus by noon.
Location
The Bread Loaf campus is located in Ripton, Vermont, about twenty minutes from Middlebury. The campus is a 2 1/2 hour drive from Montreal, about 4 hours from both Boston and Hartford, 5 hours from New York City, and 6 1/2 hours from Philadelphia.
Driving Directions
Boston—Approximately 4 hours. For places inside Route 128 (including the airport , the South Shore, and Cape Cod), take 93N to 89N to 107W to 100N to 125W.
Montreal—2.5 hours South. Canadian 133S to I 89 S to I 189 S to 7S to 125E.
New York City via Albany—(NYC is 5 hours, Albany is 2.5 hours). I 87N Exit 20 to 149E to 4E to 30N to 7S to 125E.
Once on 125, continue on the steep, winding road until you come to the ochre-colored Bread Loaf Inn and its cluster of cottages.
The GPS location found in most Internet map tools is 4229 Route 125, Ripton, Vermont 05766.
Planes and Taxis
Plan to arrive at the Burlington International Airport (BTV). The Airport is about an hour and ten minutes from campus and is served by Allegiant, American, Delta, Jet Blue, Porter, and United airlines. To get to the Bread Loaf campus from the airport—
Take a taxi: Each summer we work with a transportation service that arranges shared rides for attendees for a fee paid directly to the service. We’re happy to let you know that Jessica’s Vital Transit will provide transportation for attendees this summer. This is for Bread Loafers who will arrive at the Burlington Airport, the Greyhound Bus Stop at the Burlington Airport, or the Amtrak Station in Essex Junction, Vermont.
Please note that it’s important to make your taxi reservations as soon as possible in order to reserve a spot.
At your earliest convenience, contact Jessica’s so they can fit you into a schedule of shared rides. Jessica’s staff will be able to give you a price quote depending on the number of Bread Loafers arriving a the same time.

A few notes:
1. To get started, choose “Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference” from the Attending field at the top of the form and complete the fields from there.
2. In the departure section, please note “Bread Loaf Inn” for the pickup address and “Please Advise” for the Collection Time so Jessica’s can choose the time that will work best for your flight and taking into consideration that all must leave the Bread Loaf campus by noon on the departure day.
3. Please note the gratuity information and the cancellation policy near the bottom of the form.
2025 fees (approximate): $159 for one passenger; $89 each for two passengers; and $59 each for three or more passengers.
Please make your reservation with Jessica’s as soon as possible. Later, upon arrival at the airport, look for the driver holding the “Bread Loaf” sign in the luggage claim area.

Trains
The closest train station is in Middlebury, VT (located about 20 minutes from the Bread Loaf campus). It’s also possible to arrive in Essex Junction, VT or Rutland, VT (each located about an hour and 20 minutes from the Bread Loaf campus).
If arriving by train in Middlebury, please send a note to blt@middlebury.edu and note “Middlebury Train” in the subject line to arrange a spot in a shared van that will take passengers from the Middlebury Train Station to the Bread Load campus and back again after the conference. In the email, please note: your full name; your arrival and departure days and times; and your cell phone.
If arriving by train in Rutland, please contact a taxi in the Rutland Area to arrange transportation and be sure to plan ahead to reserve a taxi in advance.
If arriving by train in Essex Junction, we will ask you to make a reservation with Jessica’s Vital Transit (details in the Planes and Taxis section above).
Buses
Greyhound provides bus service from Montreal, Boston, Albany, and NYC to Burlington, Vermont. Visit www.greyhound.com for more information or call 1-800-231-2222. A taxi from the bus terminal in Burlington is available. See the Middlebury Transit taxi details noted in the Planes section above.
Greyhound also provides bus service to Middlebury, VT. To get from Middlebury to Bread Loaf, please send a note to blt@middlebury.edu and note “Middlebury Bus” in the subject line to arrange a spot in a shared van that will take passengers from the Middlebury Bus Station to the Bread Load campus and back again after the conference. Car Rentals
There are several rentals agencies with counters located at the Burlington Airport, including Avis (800-331-1212) and Hertz (800-654-3131).
