Bread Loaf Campus
The Bread Loaf School of English and the Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference have priority use of Bread Loaf campus for their regular academic programs in June, July, and August.
The Bread Loaf Campus is also reserved for the New England Young Writers’ Conference, Commencement and Reunion activities, the Alumni College and Leadership Conference, Fall Family Weekend, and Homecoming events. The dates of these events can be found on the Academic Calendar.
Any time remaining may be reserved for other college-related functions at the discretion of Event Management leadership. Decisions are based on the assessment of need and the feasibility of providing necessary support services.
A limited number of spring and fall weekends may be available for non-college events.
Please note that cell phone service is limited at Bread Loaf; however, all buildings have Wi-Fi access points available.
Directions
The Bread Loaf campus is a 20-minute drive from Middlebury. The GPS location found in most Internet map tools is 4229 Route 125, Ripton, Vermont 05766
The nearest airport is located in Burlington (BTV), about an 80-minute drive from the Bread Loaf Campus.
Parking
Most buildings are within walking distance of the campus center. Parking is available in front of the Barn and the private driveways of the outer houses. Parking on Route 125 is strongly discouraged for safety reasons.
Robert Frost and the Frost Farm
From 1939 until his death in 1963, Robert Frost spent summer and fall in a cabin at his farm in Ripton, Vermont. During these fruitful seasons he wrote memorable poems and shared his craft at Middlebury’s Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference and Bread Loaf School of English. The rural isolation that nurtured Frost leaves his home vulnerable today. To secure and maintain this National Historic Landmark, Middlebury College created the Robert Frost Farm and Cabin Preservation Fund.
