MiddVote

About Us

MiddVote is a nonpartisan student initiative at the Center for Community Engagement. Our goal is to mobilize students to be active participants in our democracy.

We seek to facilitate the voting process for students, from supporting registration to providing transportation to the polls on Election Day. In advance of midterm and presidential elections, we host registration drives across campus to meet students where it is most convenient.

In addition to our “Get Out the Vote” efforts, we host and sponsor events that provide spaces for students to have productive discussions about civic engagement. We also focus on fostering stronger connections between the student body and local politics here in Vermont.

Register to Vote or Sign Up for an Absentee Ballot

To register students and sign them up for absentee ballots, we use TurboVote. TurboVote is an online platform designed to make voting easier, especially for those of us who decide to vote absentee. After signing up for its service, TurboVote will send you your voter registration/absentee ballot request forms in advance of elections in your district. In addition, TurboVote will send you helpful reminders to make sure you are ready for Election Day. To sign up for this service, click here.

If you encounter any problems or have questions, send us an email at middvote@middlebury.edu.

Middlebury’s 2016 NSLVE Results

Middlebury College participates in the National Study of Learning, Voting, and Engagement (NSLVE). Since NSLVE’s launch in 2013, more than 1,000 colleges and universities have signed up to receive their voting rates for federal elections (both midterm and presidential) from NSLVE, a signature initiative of the Institute for Democracy and Higher Education (IDHE) at Tufts University's Jonathan M. Tisch College of Civic Life. You can check out Middlebury College's report here. Please note that this data includes the student body of every Middlebury institution (the College, the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey, and the Language Schools).

ALL IN Challenge

The All IN Campus Democracy Challenge is a national awards program. The Challenge encourages higher education institutions to help students form the habits of active and informed citizenship, and make democratic participation a core value on their campus. At the first-ever ALL IN Challenge Awards Ceremony, held October 19, 2017, to recognize colleges and universities committed to increasing college student voting rates, Middlebury College received a bronze seal for achieving a student rate between 50% and 59%.
