    Support for Students with Possible COVID-19 Symptoms

    I hope that you are doing well during this unprecedented and challenging time. While we are fortunate that there has not yet been a COVID-19 case on campus, cases are starting to appear in the town of Middlebury. I am writing to let you know that Parton Health Center is here to help and support you for any of your health needs, including if you begin to feel sick.

    Positive COVID-19 Test in Addison County

    Today, Porter Medical Center announced that an individual in Addison County has tested positive for the novel coronavirus, COVID-19. It is our understanding that the individual was tested by Porter’s drive-through service after being screened via telemedicine. The patient is receiving care, following CDC guidelines, and self-isolating at home. We ask all community members to respect the individual’s privacy and avoid speculation and rumor as to their identity.

    Late yesterday, the Vermont Department of Health announced the state’s first case of COVID-19, the disease caused by the new coronavirus. Officials are awaiting confirmation of the presumptive positive test result by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

    We are writing with an update to previous messages regarding coronavirus. As you know, the global situation is dynamic. Over the weekend, the State Department issued a Level 3 Travel Advisory for Italy, meaning all nonessential travel should be avoided. As we communicated on February 20, Middlebury will not support faculty, staff, or student travel to areas that have a Level 3 Travel Advisory, which now also includes China (Level 4), South Korea, and Iran (Level 4).

    Middlebury College continues to closely monitor developments concerning coronavirus, which began in Wuhan, China. The College is following CDC guidance, and College health officials are not aware of any active coronavirus cases on our campus at this time.
