Announcements, Budget Updates

Dear Faculty and Staff,

We’re writing to follow up on Wednesday’s message to the community about our plans to achieve a balanced budget at Middlebury College. As promised, we will offer a series of Q&A and information sessions on the Vermont and California campuses in the coming days and weeks. These sessions will be an opportunity for faculty and staff to ask about these plans and how they may affect individuals and overall operations at Middlebury.

Information on the retirement incentive for Vermont-based staff will be shared with staff who are eligible early next week. Individuals do not need to reach out to Human Resources at this time to express interest. HR will also be sharing information with supervisors of eligible staff and offer information sessions for all impacted groups. We will share general information with all faculty and staff about this program for broad awareness and understanding.

Following are the meetings and discussions planned for April:

  • Friday, April 4, Vermont Faculty Meeting, 2:15 p.m. EST, Dana Auditorium. We will be available to answer questions from faculty at this regularly scheduled meeting.
  • Monday, April 7, Vermont Staff Meeting, 9 a.m. EST, Wilson Hall. We will be able to answer questions from Vermont-based staff at this meeting. Release time is approved to attend.
  • Tuesday, April 8, Leadership Alliance: 1 p.m. EST/10 a.m. PST, Zoom. We will be available to answer questions with members of this group at this regularly scheduled meeting.
  • Wednesday, April 9 Joint meeting of Faculty Council and Staff Council, 2 p.m. EST, Board Room/Zoom. We will share meeting details with members of these councils.
  • Thursday, April 17 MIIS Faculty and Staff Town Hall, 12:15 p.m. PST, McCone Board Room/Zoom. Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the Institute Jeff Dayton-Johnson has already shared information with the MIIS community for this meeting.

Thank you in advance for your thoughtful questions and concerns. We look forward to seeing you at one of these sessions.

Sincerely,

Steve Snyder
