Research in Middlebury stream

Addison County has a wealth of field-based teaching and research opportunities, and College Lands provide a core for many of the sites frequented by students and faculty.

Our cataloging of class and independent projects reveals hubs of activity at Bread Loaf, Jackson Lands, Battell Biological Preserve, and fields, forests, waters, and wetlands closer to campus.

As would be expected, the lands provide for opportunities in natural sciences, but let’s not forget that they also are integral to studies and projects in arts, humanities, and social sciences. Middlebury offers a rural and small-town landscape from which we learn; College Lands stewardship plays an important role in assuring that both permanent research sites and manipulative experiments can persist.
