My name is Vickie McCuen and I use she/her pronouns. After seven years as a therapeutic outdoor adventure counselor at Rutland Mental Health, I’m now a counseling intern at Middlebury College. I currently hold a certificate in trauma counseling and am working towards my masters in clinical mental health counseling at Antioch University. Through coursework and experience I’ve developed a trauma sensitive approach with a strong focus on building a therapeutic relationship. My background in outdoor adventure naturally ties into my work, using collaboration and communication skills to aid in building a trusting relationship with clients. I have a passion for using creative approaches in counseling. Incorporating nature, music, art, and movement into my practice is my goal. I believe creative approaches reach a diverse population of clients and naturally fosters well being. Living in Vermont for over sixteen years I’ve developed a strong connection to the natural world and the community I live within. In my personal life I enjoy outdoor adventures, spending time with my family, reading, and dancing to live music. I’m excited for this learning opportunity at Middlebury College and for the opportunity to collaborate with other interns, counselors, and students.
