Spring 2021, Students

Dear Students,

Hello and happy Friday! I hope this finds you well. This is the first Dean of Students (DOS) update of 2021, offering a few time sensitive updates and reminders. More detailed arrival planning information was shared on December 23, and I strongly advise that you review it again as well.

Mandatory 14-Day Prearrival Quarantine

With COVID-19 prevalence running high nationally, we cannot emphasize enough the critical nature of the prearrival quarantine requirement. It is an absolutely essential element of our COVID risk management plan. For students arriving on February 21, your prearrival quarantine begins on February 7. For those arriving on February 22, it begins on February 8.

Flu Vaccine

The flu vaccine is required to be present on campus for the Spring 2021 semester. Please direct questions regarding the flu vaccine to the health center nurse line at 802-443-3290. If you have not submitted proof of vaccination or of a documented medical or religious exemption, please do one of the following immediately:

Upload proof of flu vaccination via the student health portal. See tab “Document upload.” Document type: “Immunization Record.”

Complete a Middlebury College Influenza Exemption Form and upload it via the student health portal. See the “Document upload” tab. Use “Immunization exemption” as the document type.

Students who do not have proof of vaccination or a medical or religious exemption on file by 5 p.m. EST on Monday, February 15, will no longer be eligible to live in campus housing or participate as in-person learners for the Spring 2021 term. In such cases, you may choose to either study remotely or take a leave of absence.

Arrival Testing Appointments

Students enrolled to learn on campus this spring, whether they will live on or off campus, must book an arrival date and testing appointment on a first-come, first-served basis. The two approved arrival days are February 21 or 22, between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. Note that all incoming new Feb students, all Feb Orientation Leaders, Feb Mentors, and all student ResLife staff are asked to arrive on February 21. We regret that we are unable to allow arrivals outside of these two arrival dates.

SGA Buses

The Student Government Association is sponsoring bus transportation from Burlington International Airport; Penn Station and White Plains, New York; Ridgewood, New Jersey; Boston; and Hookset, New Hampshire. The buses will allow for physical distancing. Tickets go on sale through the Box Office Tuesday, January 26, at 11a.m. EST. A full schedule and instructions for first time login are available on the SGA Break Buses page. Direct questions to boxoffice@middlebury.edu or 802-443-6433 during normal business hours.

Stay tuned for more DOS updates in the coming weeks. Until then, I wish you a healthy and productive winter term.

Warm regards,

Derek Doucet
