Language Schools

Dear Middlebury Language Schools Community,

The start of the Language Schools is only four short months away. It’s been a challenging year, and as I look out my snowy window, I am energized and looking forward to the start of our summer together. I am writing today with an update of our plans. My hope is to share as much information with you as we know at this point.

We will offer robust and dynamic online programs for Chinese, Italian, Japanese, and Russian. Our remaining Schools (Abenaki, Arabic, French, German, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish) will return to Vermont in a reconfigured residential program tailored to current COVID-19 conditions. The School of Hebrew will offer both online and in-person options. Whether in-person or online, we are dedicated to bringing you the best of our 100 plus years of immersive language teaching experience, enhanced by innovations in pedagogy, academic technology, and cocurricular activities developed during our 2020 online programs.

The arrival date for our on-campus programs is Thursday, June 24. Our online programs will also have their check-in on Thursday, June 24. I am sharing our COVID-19 Essentials Campus Guide for students who will attend an on-campus program. This guide demonstrates our commitment to ensuring a safe campus for our community this summer and explains the steps that we and you will take to accomplish this goal.

We will open our enrollment process on Tuesday, March 2. At that time, if you have been accepted, you will be able to submit your $400 deposit and confirm your attendance for this summer. If you have not started or completed your application, our next deadline is March 15.

We understand  that you may have outstanding questions, and we will continue to answer these throughout the spring as we plan for an exciting summer. Please consult summer updates frequently, and if you have questions specific to your Language School, please contact your Assistant Director

I look forward to welcoming you to the Language Schools this summer!

All the best,

Stephen Snyder
