SALISBURY, Vt. (AP) — Construction is underway at a Vermont dairy farm on a system that will turn cow manure and food scraps into renewable natural gas to help Middlebury College meet its goal of getting 100% of its energy from renewable sources and provide extra income for the farmer.

Middlebury College announced a commitment to power its core Vermont campus with 100% renewable energy by 2028. The College also set ambitious goals to reduce energy consumption, to phase out direct fossil-fuel investments in its endowment, and to create new educational programs and opportunities that will help empower future generations of environmental leaders.
On Tuesday, Middlebury College announced a commitment to sourcing 100 percent of their energy from renewable sources by 2028, adding their name to the growing list of universities who are raising the bar for climate action with bold commitments to renewable energy.
