INSPIRIT Dance: What We Ask of Flesh

See the premiere of choreographer Christal Brown’s evening-length dance and installation, inspired by the writings of poet Remica Bingham-Risher, as well as Brown’s caregiver journey with Alzheimer’s and dementia and her explorations of legacy. The artists’ bodies become instruments that question, connect, and dismantle the tangible and intangible histories present in us all. This soulful, profound performance is a physical examination of the capacity of human life and the intricacies of the mind.

  • Charter House Club Dinner

Join the Charter House Club for our weekly Saturday dinner! This a great, low-commitment opportunity to engage with the off-campus community, explore volunteering within Middlebury, and learn more about homelessness in Vermont. We will meet at ADK where a student driver will take us to get some groceries and then to the Charter House Coalition to help out with their dinner.

If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to chc@middlebury.edu.

  • The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee

MCMT presents our first-ever fall musical: The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee! Six of your fellow Middlebury students compete as quirky, overachieving children desperate to win their county’s spelling bee and move on to Nationals. They will be joined by four brave audience volunteers who will round out the Bee’s ten competitors. Who will win the bee? It could be you! (but probably not…)

    Danish String Quartet

Named “one of the best string quartets before the public today” by the Washington Post, the Danish String Quartet certainly made an impression when first performing here in 2017: Our sold-out audience gave them a standing ovation before we even hit intermission, and audiences have been asking for their re-engagement ever since. Join us for a mixed program that’s worth the wait: works by Purcell, Haydn, and Shostakovich, plus the quartet’s acclaimed arrangements of Nordic folk music.

  • Shape Note Singing

Described as spiritual, joyful, powerful, and raucous, Shape Note (or Sacred Harp) singing is a traditional American style of four-part, a capella, community singing popular in the United States before the Civil War. This style still thrives across the US and in the UK, with strongholds in the American South and New England. It is called Shape-Note because the notes of the scale are indicated by distinctive shapes and names: Fa – triangle, Sol – circle, La – square, and Mi – diamond.
