  • Leila Scanlon “Bad Food” - A Senior Exhibition of Pastels on Paper

    An art exhibition of my senior thesis work at the Center Gallery in McCullough. My artworks are figurative pastel drawings that mix humor with surrealism. These selected pieces result from my last semester at Middlebury. I will be available at the opening to discuss the work, explain my thought process and answer any questions at a reception on Feb. 3 at 4 pm. This event has been organized by the Program in Studio Art.

    Join us to screen Interfaith America’s event, “Art, Religion, and Academic Freedom: Lessons From the Hamline/Prophet Muhammad Controversy.” A distinguished panel of educators will discuss the recent events at Hamline University and suggest constructive ways for leaders in higher education and other sectors to navigate the inevitable conflicts that will emerge in a religiously diverse democracy.

    In honor of the late Professor Emeritus and former trustee John Spencer, Oratory Now is pleased to present the sixth annual speech competition for first-year students.   • Environmental Studies Senior Thesis Presentation

    “The Environmental Impacts of Waste and Fashion at the Turn of the Century Using The House of Mirth as Focal Text” an Environmental Studies senior thesis presentation by Eva Kaiden ‘23, Environmental Literature major.

    This paper uses Edith Wharton’s The House of Mirth to set the scene of high society at the time, as well as to delve into concrete example of how waste – fashion waste, energy waste, and the waste of human lives – played an active role in the shaping of community and quality of life in New York City, especially for women.
