    Movement Matters: Global Body in Conflict: transitions into terrestrial Artist Talk with jumatatu m. poe

    jumatatu m. poe will present “transitions into terrestrial,” sharing images, video, poetics, and movement reflecting on transitions in artmaking and life. Having completed a 10 plus year cycle of research and performance with collaborator Jermone Donte Beacham through the J-Sette focused Let ‘im Move You series, jumatatu is reflecting on the vastness of the voyage, the depth of the lessons on both being, and being with, that sprang forth from that intimately collaborative series of processes.

  • World-Wide Climate Teach-In

    Middlebury joins hundreds of educational institutions around the world (in more than 50 countries and most US states) in the World Wide Teach-In on Climate and Justice on and around March 29, 2023. This will continue ongoing campus-wide conversations and engage students, faculty, and staff as we grapple with a time of planetary crisis and transformation.

    Earth’s Materials: Perennial Perspectives in the Arts, a group exhibit of curated art, represents diverse responses from artists working in a variety of media that reflect, respond, and rejoice in the earth, our roots, and our relationships.

  • Discovering Quantum Phases of Matter with Machine Learning with Chris Herdman

    Join midd.data for a Lightning Talk with Chris Herdman (Physics). The familiar phases of matter we encounter every day—solids, liquids and gases—are well described by the laws of classical physics. Yet when matter is cooled down to very low temperatures, quantum mechanical effects can become important and transform ordinary matter into a quantum phase of matter.

  • Chromatic Paint n’ Sip (Tea)

    As a part of our recruitment process for social members, Chromatic is having a Paint n’ Sip event! We will set up mini canvases and all of the paints and paintbrushes that our house already has. We supply different types of tea and cookies for all attendees. The goal of this event is to allow people to meet the members of the Chrome board, connect with other students, take a break from academic stresses, and use their creativity to create imaginative art.

  • Careers in Intelligence and Foreign Policy: A Conversation with Col. Jack Gill ’77

    Join this session to listen and learn from Jack Gill, Middlebury ’77 (German and History double major), an adjunct professor associated with the Near East–South Asia Center for Strategic Studies in Washington DC (NESA Center). He is also an associate fellow with the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) in London. A former U.S. Army officer, he spent 27 years of active duty with Military Intelligence and policy assignments in Germany, the Pentagon and the U.S. Pacific Command in Hawaii.

    Crossfit Middlebury hosts 1 hour workouts open to all students. Crossfit is “constantly varied, high-intensity functional movement” — a mix of gymnastics, weightlifing, and cardio. Beginners welcome! Classes meet in Nelson Half Dome.
