Inspired by the popular storytelling phenomenon The Moth, Cocoon is a special evening of true stories told live without notes. This year’s edition, on the theme of “Awe,” will feature five storytellers drawn from the student body, faculty/staff, and the community, including including students Sammy Jo Serell ’27.5 and Ben Wagner ’25, alumna Shamail Naseer ’24, art history professor Katy Smith Abbott, and community member Alex Messinger. Stay for a reception with the storytellers and organizers after the show. Cash bar.
Answer our audience question, and maybe we’ll read your answer on stage! Tell us about a time when you felt awestruck. Submit your answer at https://tinyurl.com/v2uyn3hd
Special this year: the Middlebury College Museum of Art will stay open extra hours until 8:00 PM so audiences can see the related exhibition An Invitation to Awe, curated by Katy Smith Abbott in collaboration with students and colleagues from across campus. The Museum is just across the lobby from the performance venue, and museum admission is free.
This 12th annual community-wide event is produced by the Middlebury MothUp in partnership with the Mahaney Arts Center. Co-organized by Middlebury Moth-Up students producers Virginia Callen ’27.5, Phoebe Collins ’27.5, Catherine Heckler ’27.5, Shepherd Lea ’27, and Harper Nichols ’24.5 in partnership with Mahaney Arts Center Director Liza Sacheli. Mahaney Arts Center Technical Director Mark Christensen provides the musical interludes.
This event is presented with real-time captioning. Running time: 1 hour, 30 minutes, including one intermission. For mature audiences.
Tickets: $15 public, $10 Middlebury faculty/staff, alumni, and emeriti; $8 youth; $5 Middlebury College students. This event will also be streamed: $10, or $5 for Middlebury College students. In-person tickets will include access to the stream. Buy tickets: https://go.middlebury.edu/tickets (on sale in September)
