This movement class welcomes folks from across disciplines, identities, and experiences to move in ways that feel good to their bodies. Participants are guided through explorations that invite self-awareness and connection with fellow movers. We move all together and in small groups in ways that range from slow, nuanced gestures akin to moving meditations to faster paced more full-bodied expressions traveling through space; we respond to game-like structures, activate the voice, stretch, and ground through breathing and imagery. Flowing through this range of experiences, we can be joyful and grieving, awkward and confident, silly and intentional; we can sink into the weight of our flesh, while accessing lightness in our bones and attend to our internal impulses as we sense the horizon beyond the room. These practices aim to offer opportunities to open to new possibilities and cultivate care in understanding ourselves, each other, and the world of which we are part. Ages 16+, no previous experience necessary. Bring a journal and water bottle and wear clothing comfortable for moving. In her facilitation, ReMalia draws on improvisational methods based in dance and theater, somatic practices, compositional structures, and her work as a certified instructor of the Gaga movement language.
