The US abortion debate is often framed as a binary between pro-life and pro-choice, but according to a 2022 Pew Research Center poll, relatively few Americans take absolutist positions.

In this Good Talks event, Professor Caitlin Myers will offer a brief history and overview of abortion access and reproductive policy, with attention to dynamics in Vermont. Attendees will then join structured small group discussions, followed by a plenary Q&A. Refreshments provided.

Transitioning away from coal is vital to our future, but what happens in the communities that have relied on the fuel? Who benefits from these transitions? What is needed for a just transition in these communities? What kinds of challenges do these changes represent?

Amid the escalating global climate crisis, there is a growing consensus among national governments and various stakeholders – including international organizations, civil society, and businesses – that ecocide should be recognized as a crime under international law, alongside genocide, crimes against humanity, war crimes, and the crime of aggression.

Coordinating with the President and Provost’s Offices, Sustainability and Environmental Affairs, Climate Action Program, and others, we have the great privilege of bringing Frank Sesno ‘77 to campus for a week-long residency April 29-May 4. In this workshop, Sesno will provide hands-on help to students as they move through the process of pitching and planning stories.

The Religion Department at Middlebury College will present the Scott Symposium titled “What Is Religious Studies?: Two Examples from India” on the afternoon of Thursday, April 4 in the Orchard Room (Hillcrest 103) at 4:30 p.m. Community members are welcome. Leading economics journalist Adam Davidson (Planet Money, New Yorker, New York Times Magazine) will offer an overview of the challenges and his own experiences. Attendees will then join structured small group discussions, followed by a plenary Q&A.

Interested in the Global Health minor? This information session will cover the academic requirements for the minor, advice on navigating the minor, opportunities to earn credit abroad, and experiential learning opportunities. There will be a brief presentation followed by Q&A.
