The AFC invites all student, faculty, and staff women of color to join us for a Saturday brunch! This Bridgerton-themed brunch will have watercolor painting, bouquet-making with fresh flowers from the knoll, a Bridgerton murder mystery for up to 20 players, Lady Whistledown scrapbooking, a raffle and other prizes, and the best thing—food! There will be catered breakfast from local restaurants. Dress-up is not required, but definitely welcome! This event is being capped at 140, so sign up soon!
Join the Department of Luso-Hispanic Studies and the AFC for an Empanadilla-Making Workshop to start of our year and to kick of the start of National Hispanic Heritage Month which begins the next day! Professor Enrique Garcia will be teaching how to make Empanadillas. There will be snacks, music, plenty of community connections, AFC decorating for Hispanic Heritage Month, and of course you making and EATING your own empanadas!
Women of color artists, writers, and performers have been the heart and soul of social justice activism throughout history. With little to no recognition, they have woven magic as the visionaries, the healers and caretakers, the water, and the breath.
Please join us in a student-facilitated discussion on some of Kimberlé Crenshaw’s work to familiarize ourselves with topics that will be introduced in her keynote address for the AFC Grand Opening, “Intersectionality: Why We Can’t Wait For a Racial Justice Agenda That Centers Us All”.
Email afc@middlebury.edu if you are interested in participating and would like the readings in advance.
