Middlebury College Music Department Affiliate Artists present “Trio Magic”. Flutist Anne Janson, oboist Dan Frostman, and pianist Cynthia Huard will perform a captivating program of works by J.S. Bach, Madeliene Dring, and Ignaz Moscheles.

MCO will present its spring semester concert under the direction of Evan Bennett. Listening for America will feature Copland’s Billy the Kid Suite and Dvorak’s Symphony No. 9, “From the New World.”

The Middlebury College Orchestra presents a program full of magic and mystery, featuring Bernard Herrmann’s spellbinding score to the classic Hitchcock film Vertigo, Mozart’s mystical overture to The Magic Flute, and Franck’s deliciously romantic Symphony in d minor. 

Jennifer Fraser, Ph.D., Professor of Ethnomusicology and Anthropology, Conservatory of Music at Oberlin College

In this lecture, Dr. Jennifer Fraser will trace the reinvention of her pedagogical and scholarly praxis in recent years as she has become committed to the design of scholarly projects that are responsive to community needs and desires, to public-facing scholarship, and high-impact pedagogies involving community-based learning and digital humanities project.

A rare behind-the scenes peek into how modern music is created, by a 50+ year recording artist and guitar instructor.

Lynnsey Weissenberger, adjunct professor of Library and Information Studies at Florida State University, explores the ever-changing world of music information technologies and their challenges in documenting, describing, and transmitting global musical traditions. As both a practitioner of Irish traditional music and an information technologist, Dr. Weissenberger asks: What is music information? How can we accurately and ethically convey complex socio-cultural understandings of music within information systems?
