Greetings from Beijing! Our tour of the Forbidden City last month was a great success, and I was pleased to see many colleagues, Middlebury School in China alumni, and prospective students in attendance.

Screening of People's Republic of Desire with filmmaker Hao Wu

Technology executive-turned-filmmaker Hao Wu takes a raw and human approach to story-telling in an era when culture evolves online. Wu previously held management roles at Alibaba, TripAdvisor and Excite@Home. He is now a fellow at Washington D.C.-based think tank, New America. His documentary films have received support from Ford Foundation JustFilms, ITVS, Sundance, Tribeca and international broadcasters.

Mandarin in Primary and Secondary Education: An Alumni Roundtable Discussion

An informal, wide-ranging discussion and Q&A with Middlebury College alumni.

Mairead Harris (‘2009, Chinese, Spanish) teaches Mandarin in grades 6 to 12 at Stowe Middle & High School in Vermont; she is also the Associate Director of the Middlebury Chinese School, where she previously taught Level One, and a member of the board of the national Chinese Language Teachers’ Association as the K-12 representative.
