Or perhaps you’ve just tried online … and found something lacking. Learn to play at MIIS library on Friday, September 22nd from 2-4:30 PM. No experience is necessary and all MIIS community members are welcome!

Join us for another film in our continuing series dedicated to stories by women and of women. We are wrapping up the semester with The Worst Person in the World (Joachim Trier, 2021), a film that subverts the notion of a romantic-comedy while residing within its confines. Like always, we will book-end the film with a (hopefully) lively discussion. Cinephiles and just plain movie-lovers are all invited. Even if its just for the free popcorn, come watch with with us!

Are you fan of coming-of-age films set in early-2000’s Sacramento? Do you appreciate the acting prowess of Saoirse Ronan, or Timothee Chalamet’s cheekbones? If yes is the answer to any of these questions, then please join us for an Alba Film Society screening of Greta Gerwig’s Lady Bird. There will be a discussion following the film. What does communication have to do with the body? Join us at the library for this book conversation with Andrea Olsen and Institute colleagues. Olsen is Middlebury faculty emeritus who taught at the Institute over a span of five years in the Department of Development, Practice, and Policy.* One major result of her time at MIIS was the creation of her latest book, Moving Between Worlds: A Guide to Embodied Living and Communicating with co-authored chapters and anecdotes involving MIIS/Middlebury faculty, students, and staff.

Find your perfect literary match! Come to MIIS Library on Sunday, February 12th from 1-3 p.m. and choose a book that’s concealed in Valentine’s Day wrapping paper. Each selection will have a card attached with the book’s first sentence and the genre, but that’s it! Check your blind date book out, take it home and read for an hour. (No sneaking out on your date early please!) If you don’t fall in love, no worries. Just return it, no questions asked … unless you want to talk about why it didn’t work for you. If you do, the library staff will be “all ears.”

Come join us for a screening of Wong Kar Wai’s 2000 film In The Mood For Love. The Alba Film Society was formed by a group student and staff members who love the art of cinema. With regular monthly screenings held at the library DVD room, and encouraged discussions following every film, we seek to engage the MIIS community with the beauty of the moving screen. The MIIS Library, Student Services, and the Vice President’s Office presents a Halloween weekend showing of Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas on the big screen.
