Students, Fall 2021

Dear Students,

We are writing with some additional information about prearrival testing requirements and new quarantine procedures for students who are awaiting results when they arrive on campus for the fall semester. For additional information about prearrival testing and move-in, please visit the fall information website.

As previously announced, all students, regardless of vaccination status, must provide written documentation of a negative COVID-19 test result from within 72 hours (three days) before their arrival at Middlebury. We have added this requirement in response to increased prevalence of COVID-19 worldwide and in Addison County–as we now know that the Delta variant of the virus can be highly transmissible among both vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals.

Students Waiting for Test Results Must Quarantine

Following are procedures for those who are waiting for test results upon arrival:

  • Any student who has not yet received their COVID-19 PCR test results when they arrive on campus must quarantine in their room until they receive a negative test result.

  • During this time, they may collect grab-and-go meals at the dining halls but must return to their room to eat the meal, or eat outside away from other people.

  • All other events and activities must be attended virtually until a negative test result is received.

  • Face coverings must be worn at all times when around other people, except for when attending to personal hygiene in the bathroom or while eating and drinking, away from others, or while alone in your own room or alone in your room with your roommate.

  • If you live in a suite or townhouse or anywhere else where there is a common area you must remain in your room when others are present, unless using the bathroom or leaving for meals.

  • Any student who learns of an exposure, has symptoms of COVID-19, or receives a positive test result must not come to campus and immediately contact Health Services at 802-443-3290 or healthservices@middlebury.edu for further instructions.

If You Received an Inconclusive Test or Need to Be Retested

  • In addition to the procedures above, any student who has received an inconclusive test and must be retested, should contact Health Services at the nurse’s triage line at 802-443-3290 to make arrangements for an additional test upon arrival.

Thank you for your help as we work together to keep our community healthy and safe. We look forward to welcoming you on campus.

Sincerely,

Derek Doucet
