Unvaccinated students are those who have not received the COVID-19 vaccine due to medical or religious exemptions or others who are not “fully vaccinated” as defined by Middlebury’s COVID-19 Vaccine Requirements Policy

Unvaccinated students who have no COVID-19 symptoms but are a close contact of someone who has COVID -19 must do the following:

  • Students must quarantine in their room and arrange for a NAAT/PCR test immediately and five days following the exposure by self-scheduling test appointments at the Bookings site at Virtue Fieldhouse (Mondays-Thursdays) or at Health Services (Fridays). Students who develop symptoms should get re-tested right away and follow the instructions in Health Services’ self-care resource.
  • Students who do not have any symptoms must get a NAAT/PCR test on or after Day 5 of their quarantine period. They must remain in quarantine until they receive a negative Day 5 test result. If the result is negative and they still do not have any symptoms, they may return to their normal activities and end quarantine but should continue to monitor for symptoms and wear a well-fitted mask indoors for the remainder of the 10-day period following the exposure.
  • Students who test positive through a test administered by the College will receive support from Health Services to determine their recovery plan and Isolation and Quarantine Housing staff so that a housing plan can be made. This may include a move to separate isolation housing, recovery in place, or isolation at home or at another location. They must follow all instructions from Health Services and Isolation and Quarantine staff and the instructions for students who test positive for COVID-19, which include isolation requirements and instructions regarding departure from isolation or in-room recovery.
  • Students who test positive through a test administered outside of the College must immediately contact Health Services, if during business hours, at 802-443-3290 or Public Safety, if after hours, at 802-443-5133, so that a recovery plan can be made. This may include a move to separate isolation housing, recovery in place, or isolation at home or at another location. They must also follow instructions from Health Services and Isolation and Quarantine staff and the instructions for students who test positive for COVID-19, which include isolation requirements and instructions regarding departure from isolation or in-room recovery.
  • Students who have unresolved, concerning symptoms by day 5 of isolation should contact Health Services for support and guidance. Worsening symptoms may result in extension of a student’s isolation period due to the possibility of a prolonged infectious period.

Unvaccinated students who develop COVID-19 symptoms but are not a known close contact of someone who has COVID -19 must do the following:

  • Unvaccinated students who develop COVID-19 symptoms and are not a close contact of someone with COVID-19 must immediately quarantine in their room and arrange for a test by self-scheduling a symptomatic test through the Bookings site (Mondays-Thursdays) or at Health Services (Fridays). After hours, students should contact MiddTelehealth and then schedule a symptomatic test the next business day.
  • If the NAAT/PCR test results are negative, they are not a close contact of someone with COVID-19, symptoms have resolved, and they have not developed any new symptoms, students may return to their normal activities and end quarantine. They should continue to monitor for new symptoms and wear a well-fitted mask indoors for 10 days. If they develop new symptoms, they must test again, continue or restart quarantine, and contact Health Services, if during business hours, at 802-443-3290, or Public Safety, if after business hours, at 802-443-5133, if their test comes back positive.
  • Unvaccinated students with symptoms but no known exposure must base the decision to end quarantine on a NAAT/ PCR test result only. Antigen tests are only helpful if positive, and negative antigen tests must be confirmed with a NAAT/ PCR test.

  • Home antigen tests when positive in an individual experiencing symptoms indicate active infection and those individuals must immediately contact Health Services, if during business hours, at 802-443-3290 or Public Safety, if after hours, at 802-443-5133, so that a recovery plan can be made. A negative home antigen test does not rule out infection and those students should room quarantine and arrange for a PCR test in accordance with the instructions above and follow the instructions for students who test positive for COVID-19, which include isolation requirements and instructions regarding departure from isolation or in-room recovery.
  • Students who have unresolved, concerning symptoms by day 5 of isolation should contact Health Services for support and guidance. Worsening symptoms may result in extension of a student’s isolation period due to the possibility of a prolonged infectious period.
