Aquatic Nuisance Prevention
The Aquatic Nuisance regulation is designed to prevent release or escape of nonindigenous aquatic species.
This federal regulation applies to both grants and contracts, and to all subrecipients. PIs who plan to submit proposals to federal agencies for work with such species must first submit the research protocol to an institutional committee for approval. The committee must assess the nuisance risk and determine what measures are required to prevent the species’ release or escape. No project will be funded without approval, and failure to follow the approved protocol can result in debarment or loss of federal funds at the investigator level.
