Residence Director On-Call Response

Our Residence Directors (RDs), masters-level student affairs professionals with extensive training and experience supporting students in challenge circumstances, are key responders in moments of crisis. They are on duty 24/7 every day of the year. They are backed up by senior Administrators on Call (AOCs) whom RDs call upon when dealing with particularly high-risk or complex situations.

Residential Life and the Strategic Plan

Middlebury’s Strategic Plan identifies fostering community and connection as central to the student experience. Residential Life advances this goal in numerous ways, with student staff playing a critical role. Each year, staff training prepares them to carry out three closely connected responsibilities: engaging in regular one-on-one interactions with residents, creating and hosting social programs, and providing support through both informal presence in the residence halls and formal on-duty hours on weekend evenings.

In addition, Residential Life’s in-hall programming is intentionally designed to strengthen students’ sense of community, connection, and belonging. Data on resident interactions and program participation demonstrate the department’s ongoing efforts to build meaningful relationships and cultivate a vibrant residential community on a daily basis.
