Becoming a Peer Writing Tutor
Students are invited to become Peer Writing Tutors if they have been nominated for the Ward Prize (for writing the best First-Year paper) or if they have been specifically requested by a faculty member to work with a first-year seminar or a college writing course.
New Peer Writing Tutors are paid ($8.70 an hour), and the Writing Program provides them with all the training they need. All new tutors attend six sessions (an organizational meeting and five training sessions). All experienced tutors attend three sessions (an organizational meeting and two training sessions).
See the Peer Writing Tutor blog for more information, and ask to join our facebook site.

Optional Ref-Works sessions will be held for Peer Writing Tutors. These sessions will be paid by LIS.
Attendance policy for PWTs:
We expect you to attend regularly scheduled afternoon training sessions. Makeup sessions are for mentors and tutors who have legitimate conflicts (sports practice, orchestra, job interview, or a lecture required for a class). In advance of the regular session, please e-mail for permission to attend a makeup session. Make-ups will be given only with permission and in advance for a valid reason. E-mail Melanie Haas for permission (mhaas@middlebury.edu). Melanie will consult with Mary Ellen Bertolini, and then let you know if you have permission to attend a makeup session with Melanie.
Getting Paid
For complete instructions, consult the Peer Writing Tutor blog.
Enter your time on Banner Web, AND submit a paper log sheet in CTLR, or e-mail a completed PWT Log sheet (see box on the left) to Head Peer Writing Tutor, Melanie Haas.
