Simple Sign up for Facebook (if you are NOT already a member)

The following instructions provide information on the simplest way to sign up for Facebook skipping some OPTIONAL steps and only focusing on what is required and recommended by us. For complete information on the different aspects of signing up, what you need to know before you sign up, setting your privacy settings and how to use Facebook please visit the Facebook help page: www.facebook.com/help

Basic Sign Up

1. Go to the Facebook home page: www.facebook.com
2. Under the title "Sign Up" fill in the requested information (name, email, password, gender, birth date)
3. Click the Sign Up button
4. A "Security Check" will display: fill in the words shown in the box
5. Click the Sign Up button
6. OPTIONAL: All of the steps Facebook presents to you from this point are OPTIONAL and we advise skipping any steps that you do not feel comfortable with (click on Skip this step or just Skip)
7. We strongly advise skipping the FIND FRIEND tool during the sign up process--it can generate emails to ALL of your email contacts. Just click on Skip this step

Your Facebook account has now been created and all you need to do to complete your registration is confirm your email address:

1. Open your email inbox (at the email address you provided to Facebook)
2. You should have received an email from Facebook allowing you to confirm your registration (this email may take a few minutes to arrive)
3. Open the email, click on the registration confirmation link

Now you can navigate back to facebook (www.facebook.com), log in (using the email address you provided and the password you created) and update your profile:

1. We recommend uploading a photo of yourself so your friends can tell it's you and hiding the year from your birth date during your profile set up.
