Bread Loaf School of English
Middlebury awards need-based financial aid to qualified applicants in the Bread Loaf School of English. All Bread Loaf students are eligible to apply for financial aid. Financial aid is available in the form of grants and loans. During the summer of 2013, approximately 56 percent of Bread Loaf students received grants, with an average award of $3,200.
To be considered for a grant you must: 1) be accepted to attend one of the four campuses, and 2) have completed a Middlebury College Bread Loaf School of English Financial Aid Application, including any other requested documentation.
Applications will be available online October 1st. Financial aid awarding will begin in January.
It is important to get your completed institutional aid application to us as soon as possible following the October 1st posting. Our funds are limited and do run out. Aid decisions will start to go out from our office during the month of January. Student Financial Services is committed to helping candidates receive the support they need to attend the Bread Loaf School of English.
US citizens, US permanent residents and Canadian citizens should complete the Middlebury College Bread Loaf School of English aid Application.
International students should complete the Middlebury College International Student Financial Aid Application (IFAA).
Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
US citizens and permanent residents applying for Federal Stafford or Grad PLUS loans must submit the 2014-2015 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). This form will be available January 1, 2014. Middlebury's FAFSA code is 003691. Once you've completed the FAFSA, the federal government will send you a Student Aid Report (SAR). Please check all pages for accuracy.
When utilizing the IRS Data Retrieval Tool, we suggest you delay the filing of your FAFSA for two weeks after electronically filing your federal tax returns. This delay will help to ensure that the IRS Data Retrieval Tool will have the information required to complete your FAFSA. If you file your taxes by paper, we suggest you delay the filing of your FAFSA for 4-6 weeks to ensure that the IRS has access to the proper information.
Middlebury verifies the federal financial aid application of any graduate student selected by the federal government. Verification is required by the federal government and compares the information reported on your FAFSA to the information filed on your federal tax returns.
Your taxable income must be verified by using the FAFSA's IRS Data Retrieval Tool or by comparing it to an IRS tax transcript. The IRS Data Retrieval Tool allows you and your family to upload data from your filed federal tax returns at the time you complete your FAFSA. If you choose not to use it, you must manually enter this income information into your FAFSA and submit an IRS tax transcript to our office. It can take several weeks for the IRS to process transcript requests, which will delay the processing of your financial aid application. We cannot award your financial aid until verification is complete.
Track the availability of financial assistance and the enrollment status of programs, below (updated weekly). The SFS Awarding Date indicates where our office is with regards to awarding grant assistance. This date is a combination of your acceptance date to the Bread Loaf School of English and the date by which your aid application was reviewed by the SFS Office. The latter of the two dates is the date of record.
