One of the easiest ways to make announcements to participants of a course is to send an email to the course mailing list. Alternatively, if you have created a course site or blog, you can post to announcement there.
What you need:
Any course site made with Segue, WordPress, Measure or MediaWiki can be updated with announcements from any computer connected to the web. All you need is a web browser like Firefox, Internet Explorer or Safari. Any email application can send an email to a class mailing list, provided you are authorized to send to that list (i.e. you are a registered participant of that course).
How you do it:
If you want to email an announcement to participants of a course do the following:
- Open your email application (e.g. Outlook, Entourage)
- Start a new email message to: <<course-code>>@middlebury.edu
If you want to make announcement via a course site or blog, do the following:
- Go to your course site/blog
- Log in with your Midd username and password
- Add a new post/content block with announcement
Tips and suggestions:
Chose a technology/platform and make sure everyone agrees to use it. Class email lists only work if students are checking their Middlebury email. Course sites and blogs only work if people know where they are and how to log into them (if they are not public)
